It’s Time To Kill Your Lawn

Luxury house with freshly mown grass lawn. Home exterior.

Please watch this amazing short video on how destructive the American lawn is for the environment, and to our health and well being.

“Lawn care” is waste of time and money that is emptying our communities of wildlife, and contributing mightily to the destruction of our local environments. Pesticides, fertilizers, fumes from the mowers and the blowers — We have made our lawns toxic not just to local nature but to us. Homeowners apply 10X more pesticides per acre than do farmers.

Then there’s this problem:

Using your garden variety gas powered leaf blower with a two-stroke engine for 30 minutes emits the same amount of hydro carbons as a 2011 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor pickup truck does on a 3,900 mile drive from Texas to Alaska.”

Then there’s the dangerous noise levels, and the vibrations. Why do we ask human beings to do this?

It’s time to wake up, time to stop mindlessly walking rectangles every three days with all the noise and fumes pushing a mower because that’s what people do. It doesn’t have to be that way. Plant natives. No mowing, watering, fertilizers, pesticides. See local nature return. Save money and time. Create a yard that is alive and a joy to be in.

No one actually uses their lawns today. We fetishize them, laboring to keep alive grasses that don’t even belong here. Native grasses require nothing. You get your Sunday afternoons back.
