1. Overview

The Long Island Conservancy (LIC) is seeking quote proposals from qualified contractors for invasive species removal and native habitat restoration services. This project is part of a broader initiative to improve water quality, restore native biodiversity, and engage community volunteers in ecological stewardship.

This RFQ is designed to identify a contractor with deep expertise in Long Island’s native plant communities, ecological restoration methods, and stormwater mitigation strategies. The selected contractor will work closely with LIC staff and volunteers to execute a high-impact restoration project that blends technical precision with community engagement.

2. Scope of Work

The selected contractor will be responsible for:

  • Mechanical and manual removal of invasive plant species, including root systems and seed banks
  • Ecological site assessment and restoration planning
  • Safe disposal of biomass in compliance with DEC guidelines
  • Coordination with LIC staff and trained volunteers during fieldwork
  • Preparation of site for native plant reintroduction, including soil remediation and hydrology-sensitive grading
  • Documentation of restoration progress and ecological impact

This RFQ may also serve as a basis for future restoration projects through December 2026.

3. Required Qualifications

To be considered, contractors must demonstrate:

  • Proven experience in ecological restoration and native plant systems specific to Long Island’s coastal and upland habitats.
  • Proven track record of designing and implementing native plant installations across Long Island’s coastal, woodland, and wetland habitats.
  • Deep knowledge of local ecotypes, soil conditions, and seasonal planting windows.
  • Experience with mechanical and manual removal of invasive species including, but not limited to, phragmites, mugwort, porcelain berry, and multiflora rose.
  • Familiarity with ecological restoration techniques that prevent regrowth and support native biodiversity
  • Ability to train and supervise youth stewards in planting and invasive ID techniques.
  • History of leading community planting events and collaborating with municipal partners.
  • Compliance and Insurance:Fully insured and licensed; Familiarity with municipal permitting, ADA-accessible design standards, and ecological compliance protocols.
